On April 26th we had our first Farm to Table celebratory lunch with our high school Agriscience and ProStart culinary arts students! Our students got to enjoy fried chicken, fried, and a salad with greens, tomatoes, cheese, eggs, and more. 🥗 🍗

Our elementary and middle school students are now all busy with LEAP testing, and it’s high school’s turn next week. In the meantime, take a look at some of the things we were learning this week and last week before we got started testing. Here you’ll see: our kids testing the water of our aquaponics equipment, learning about perimeter and area on a coordinate plane, prepping for the eclipse, solving equations using trig functions, working quadratic equations, learning about Egypt, and more!

Now hiring for 2024-2025: The LSD War Eagle team is GROWING - we have an incredible team that has grown by 127% this year and we are SOARING. We are getting more new students frequently and we need more team members. Are you interested in joining our dedicated group of educators and staff? Apply now at tinyurl.com/LSDCareers 🦅

In April we had some deaf and hard of hearing student visitors from Avoyelles Parish and Tangipahoa Parish! We had so much fun making new friends and we can’t wait to welcome more schools to learn along with us for Deaf History Month!

How did your solar eclipse viewing go? We couldn’t see much with the cloudy Louisiana sky, but we had lots of fun in our small groups learning about eclipses and eating eclipse-themed snacks! Our students who had permission got eclipse glasses and got to go outside to view it. Since we didn’t have much luck seeing this phenomenon, we decided to go inside and check it out virtually! 😎 💻

We celebrated School Librarian Day this week by going to the EBR library! Ms. Rebecca gave a tour of the beautiful River Center Branch Library and students got to learn about all of the exciting things the library has to offer. They were AMAZED to find out that they could access it all for FREE! They were able to participate in story time which featured “The Mouse who Carried a House on His Back by J. Stutzman. They were also able to write/draw about what their favorite thing is about the library. Their work is hung up in the library for all patrons to see, and they can’t wait to get their own library cards.
Thank you Ms. Christine Kelley, our librarian, for everything you do for our students, and always going above and beyond!
