Student's First.
This week the District welcomed back teachers at our Back to School Celebration and breakfast event. We were joined by SSD Board of Directors President, Sandy Holloway and Bernell Cook, Louisiana State Director of Education, who each gave inspiring words of encouragement to teachers and staff.
The message of the morning was clear from the matching T-shirts worn by attendees to the thoughtful remarks shared by our guest speakers. Every part of the event reflected our commitment to putting students at the center of everything we do at SSD.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Sandy Holloway, SSD Board President, and Bernell Cook, Louisiana State Director of Education, for sharing their insights and encouragement as we begin a new school year. Together, we are building a future where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

New student-athletes (Grades 7–12):
✅ Complete all required athletic forms.
✅ Have the sports physical completed by your healthcare provider.

Last week, our students and FFA members had an incredible time at the Louisiana FFA Area IV Leadership Camp!
Our students had an amazing opportunity to connect with FFA members from across the state while building leadership skills, making new friendships, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Throughout the week, students participated in team-building activities, sports, leadership workshops, reflection sessions, and began planning for an exciting year ahead for our school's FFA chapter.
We are especially proud of our members who were recognized with camp awards, including Best Dressed, Basketball, and the honor of receiving Official FFA Manuals from current FFA officers. Receiving an Official FFA Manual is a meaningful symbol of leadership, mentorship, and confidence. It represents the passing of the torch and serves as an encouragement to continue growing as leaders within our chapter and the FFA organization.
We also enjoyed plenty of fun, laughter, and unforgettable moments throughout the week that strengthened our chapter and reminded us of what FFA is all about. Now we can't wait to put everything we learned into action this year. The future of our chapter is bright!

Last week, our chapter had an incredible experience at the Louisiana FFA State Convention!
Throughout the week, our students took advantage of countless opportunities to learn, grow, and connect. Members proudly served as voting delegates, attended leadership workshops, explored the expo, and networked with FFA members from across the state. Along the way, they reunited with old friends, made new connections, and created memories that will last a lifetime.
Several of our students were selected to compete in a trivia contest, while others participated in chapter challenges that encouraged teamwork, leadership, and creativity. Our members also decorated clothespins featuring hand-drawn braille and signs to help spread awareness about our chapter and promote inclusion.
While the activities and competitions were exciting, the most valuable takeaway was the inspiration our students brought home. They left the convention motivated, energized, and excited for the upcoming school year, ready to apply what they learned and continue growing as leaders.
We are so proud of the way our members represented our chapter throughout the week and look forward to all they will accomplish this year!💙💛

Yesterday, our seniors graduated from the Louisiana School for the Deaf. 💚💛
Before graduation, we asked them one question: “What will you miss most about LSD?”
Their answers were about friendships, dorm life, sports, memories, teachers and staff, support, opportunities, and finally feeling at home.
At LSD, our students don’t just attend school - they build community, confidence, language, and lifelong connections.
We are so proud of the Class of 2026 and are so thankful to have been part of their journey.
Once a War Eagle, always a War Eagle. 🦅

Can you feel the excitement? 😁 “I love it here! When can I get my bed and pillow and move in?” — a prospective 10th grader discovering the Louisiana School for the Deaf dorms. Our bright, modern common areas — colorful couches, game tables, and cozy corners — are ready for new memories. 🦅🏠

Exciting news! Two of our administrators attended the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools & Programs for the Deaf in Minneapolis and returned full of fresh ideas and inspiration. 🎉 They’re eager to implement what they learned to strengthen our programs and better support our community. 💚🦅
