SSD Board of Directors announce next steps in supt. search.docx

On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Louisiana Special School District Board of Directors announced its next steps in the search for a district Superintendent.

Members of the Board’s Personnel Committee will work with SSA Consultants, an executive recruitment service, to lead the Superintendent search. SSA Consultants will define the search, advertise and recruit for the position and screen prospective candidates. The Board will then select a Superintendent from the top tier applicants.

SSA will work closely with the SSD Board and the public to ensure that all relevant activities outlined in the agreement are completed and will result in the successful placement of a new district leader.

The Board’s Personnel Committee published the updated job description, which can be found on the SSD website at ssdofla.org. Members will keep the public updated as the search continues to ensure an equitable and transparent process.

The Louisiana Special School District is an educational service agency governed by a 12-member Board of Directors. SSD operates the Louisiana Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired, both located in Baton Rouge, and offers outreach and early intervention services to families with Deaf, hard-of-hearing, Blind and visually impaired children in Louisiana. The Louisiana Accessible Education Materials Center, also housed on the Baton Rouge campus, provides assistive technology and braille materials to SSD and other statewide organizations.

The district also provides educational programing to students enrolled at privately operated facilities, public health facilities and correctional facilities spanning across four state agencies and four administrative departments: The Office of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities, the Office of Behavioral Health, the Office of Juvenile Justice and the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
